Meet the Board

The City Market Board is made up of community members, local business owners, and Market vendors who share a commitment to bringing Edmontonians the best quality, locally produced products in a friendly, urban market setting. Meet our 2010 Board of Directors:

Richard Wong, Chair – A long time customer of the Market and the General Manager of the Sutton Place Hotel in downtown Edmonton, Richard’s business savvy is a valuable addition to the Board.

Dan Young, Vice Chair – Dan is the owner/operator of Medicine Man Bison and is one of four vendor representatives on the Board. He runs a bison ranch west of Edmonton and sells at farmers’ markets in Edmonton and area.

John Smith, Secretary – John is a partner in Walden West Foods and is another long-time vendor who has joined the board. John’s political savvy and rich experience in marketing, fundraising and advocacy is a tremendous addition to the board.

Kaare Borass, Treasurer - A regular customer and strong supporter of the City Market, Kaare is a Project Manager for large business application implementations with Ideaca. He is also a Chartered Accountant and brings strong business process and financial/management accounting experience to the Board.

Judy Batty - A long-time patron and big supporter of the City Market, you will find Judy strolling the City Market almost every Saturday, visiting with vendors and purchasing their goods for a BBQ that evening or a special dinner party. Judy, who serves as the Communications Assistant for United Way Alberta Capital Region, is pleased to share her insights and support with the Market.

Ed Fong – Ed is a member of the 104th Street business community and a fervent Market booster. A partner in deVine Wines and Tzin Wine and Tapas, Ed is also highly involved with the neighbourhood. He advocates street issues on the 104th Street Action Committee and sits on the board of the Downtown Business Association. On behalf of the Market, Ed assists with marketing and liaises with 104th Street businesses.

Patricia Fris – Another of our vendor representatives, Patricia is the owner of Bejeweled. As owner, designer and producer, Patricia takes pride in creating locally made, one-of-a-kind wearable art. All her jewelery is handmade from sterling silver, semi-precious stones and crystals.

Jon Hall – Jon is a resident on the street and a strong advocate for the City Market. Jon works for the Realtors Association of Edmonton and his experience in governance and marketing is a valuable addition to the Board.

Dieter Kuhlman – Dieter has been involved with the City Market since the inception of the project. Dieter divides his time between three different markets and proudly operates a second generation farm that includes two grandchildren.

Glennis Tober - Glennis, a vendor representative, is the owner of Spring Harvest Farm and specializes in raising white and naturally coloured angora goats for their beautiful, lustrous mohair. The mohair is prepared into roving and yarn, woven into blankets, knit into socks, or simply washed for the craft community.

A Market Minute

Take time to chat with City Market vendors: the farmers, growers, chefs and artists. Knowing the people behind the products you buy is a key part of the appeal and fun of a farmers’ market.
